If only there was a handy research tool at the tip of your fingers that makes it easy for you to learn about rugby players from the other side of the planet within seconds...
At a time when rugby is crying out for stars to build the game's profile, New Zealand's Sky Sport show, The Breakdown, did the sport zero favours when "analysing" France's incredible performance in Dublin last weekend.
Former All Black Stephen Donald's comments went viral across X this week, with the World Cup winning analyst saying on New Zealand's flagship rugby show: "It was one of the most impressive French performances I've seen, they dismantled Ireland. You talk about players that we might not know of, I still couldn't tell you the names of them, but the forwards kept coming off the bench dismantling Ireland."
Rugby union is the number one sport in New Zealand and a huge part of their culture, yet they seemingly remain in the dark when it comes to Northern Hemisphere players.
People may argue how time zone difference comes into play but when content of blockbuster games like last Saturday’s are all over YouTube and social media, there really is no excuse for the likes of Donald's comments.
Would Ben Kay, Brian O'Driscoll and Ugo Monye on TNT Sports' Rugby Review show struggle to name New Zealand's forwards following a mesmerising win in the Rugby Championship? The answer is no.
New Zealand's insular rugby mentality is doing zero favours to our global game.
