New Zealand Rugby has confirmed that All Blacks and Hurricanes halfback Cam Roigard has signed a contract extension that will keep him in New Zealand until the end of 2029.
The 25-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027, cited the upcoming 2029 British & Irish Lions tour as a significant factor in his decision to remain with the Hurricanes and Counties Manukau.
"I’m loving my rugby right now and the opportunity to represent the All Blacks, the Hurricanes and Counties Manukau here in New Zealand is something I don’t take for granted," Roigard said in a statement.
"It has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid to play Super Rugby and be an All Black, and I want to continue living that dream."
Since making his Super Rugby Pacific debut against the Crusaders in 2021, Roigard has established himself as a key figure for the Hurricanes, accumulating 47 caps over five seasons.
His domestic form led to an All Blacks debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2023. He has since earned 17 Test caps and scored 12 tries, becoming a regular starter in the No. 9 jersey.
NZR General Manager of Professional Rugby & Performance, Chris Lendrum, highlighted the importance of retaining key talent during their prime years.
"Cam is an outstanding young man, and already one of the best halfbacks in world rugby," Lendrum said. "It’s encouraging to see our top players recognising the challenge and opportunity of the global calendar over the next period and choosing to continue their rugby in our environments."
The extension provides stability for the Hurricanes, following confirmation earlier this week that Pouri Rakete-Stones and Fehi Fineanganofo will depart for Newcastle after the 2026 season.
Hurricanes Head Coach Clark Laidlaw praised Roigard’s development from a squad player to an international leader.
"He’s gone from a wildcard pick a few years back to establishing himself as one of the best halfbacks in the world," Laidlaw said.
"Both the Hurricanes and Cam have done a lot of work to get to that point.He’s a strong character within the group, an outstanding professional, and we really look forward to having him with the team and the club over the next few years."
